The UK’s first ever leadership programme for clinical trial managers, designed and led by the UKTMN, launched on Monday 24 February 2025. There was huge demand for a place on the 6-month hybrid programme, with double the number of applications for places that could be offered.

Twenty-two UKTMN members, from academic and NHS institutions around the UK, met in Manchester on 24 March, for a welcome dinner, followed by a full first day of the programme.

Professor Lucy Chappell, Chief Scientific Advisor to DHSC and CEO for the National Institute for Health Research, joined the evening and delivered an inspiring speech about the value of trial management staff in clinical research, and a Q&A session. The first day of the programme was led by an independent leadership coach, Nick Robinson, first focussing on building connections and trust.

The launch of the ASPIRE programme has marked many months of work and initial feedback from the cohort has been very positive. We look forward to seeing the cohort develop and grow over the forthcoming months, before meeting them again in-person as a celebration at the end of the programme.
